Southport
Southport Pier. The white roofed building is an expensive fish and chip cafe that charged people to use the toilets and employed a person specifically to enforce this! Meanwhile on the stage, preparation for a show of some kind is taking place

Southport Pier, an unusual pier in that there's not much on it. However, since the demise of Herne Bay's pier, I believe this is now the second longest pleasure pier in the UK (after Southend)
McDonalds show an unusual break from their traditional retail park architecture for this seafront retail park setting. Southport is a strange seaside resort in that it doesn't really have much of a promenade

This has to be one of the most depressing places I have ever seen. The Pleasureland amusement park was until fairly recently, one of the best seaside amusement parks in the UK and indeed was ownd by Blackpool Pleasure Beach, however the dream has now turned into a nightmare, the park closed last year and most of the historic rides were demolished. It has now reopened but is now nothing more than a travelling funfair located in the derelict ruins of the original park.
The ruins of Pleasureland. The coaster is in the process of being removed and the only prospect of anything better is heralded by a scruffy garden shed. As well as the demise of all the proper rides, all the shops and stalls have been closed too.

This area of wasteland next to the Pleasureland has been used to dump various artefacts from the rides

A derelict nightclub.
Southport shops. The town itself is reasonable, if not pleasant, it is the seafront and in particular Pleasureland that is a total disgrace.

This bunker like building houses Southport railway station (closed when I visited due to a broken rail at Ainsdale)
