A South West Trains class 73 electro-diesel locomotive thunders through Southampton Central
A rather plasticky-looking 'Southern' train rolls into Southampton Central
The interior of a class 421 '4-CIG' slam-door Electric Multiple Unit. These trains were in widespread use throughout the South until being replaced recenently by 'Desiro' trains.
One of Lymington's narrow streets
Lymington quay
Lymington Town station. The Lymington Branch line is being marketed as a 'heritage' line and the selection of railway artefacts here demonstrate this. It is a very good station though.
A 4-CIG approaches Lymington Town. The Lymington branch is the last refuge of these reliable but old-fashioned trains.
Ah, the sound of doors slamming, noisy brakes and windows that actually open! They don't make 'em like they used to.
Inside of a 4-CIG. This coach was surprisingly empty.
The 4-CIG at Brockenhurst
The front of the 4-CIG, no, (42)1 497. It was SR tradition to omit the first two digits of the number. This unit has been named 'Freshwater'
Poole's magnificent 'Arndale' complex, a fine example of 1950s/60s urban planning
The Arndale Centre was renamed the Dolphin Centre in the 1990s (because the word 'Arndale' evokes images of 1960s shopping centres!). However, the Sports Centre retains its original lettering.

Poole bus station, linked to the Arndale Centre
Entrance to the Arndale multi-storey car park. This car park uses vertical concrete struts to give a strong outward expression.
Back streets of the Arndale, the car park is to the left and the bus station to the right
One of the Arndale Centre's main entrances. Although part of the upper facade has been 'Postmodernized', a fine 1960s staircase can still be seen to the right of it.
This Barclays Bank building is somewhat overpowering. It's stark, late Brutalist style is raher brash and totally out of proportion with everything around it.
Looking towards the Library, which is also part of the Arndale complex. The complex was buyilt in stages, with the library being onbe of the older elements.
More Brutalist architecture in Poole, just across from the Arndale
Fantastic, it's another spiral parking ramp! This particular one belongs to the Arndale centre's rooftop car park
View from the top of the Arndale
Top of the spiral parking ramp and good views of the fringes of Poole Harbour
