I arrived in Glasgow just before noon, slightly later than expected as the flight was delayed by an hour. This is George Square, probably Glasgow's main public space.
George Square, looking North-East ish
This fantastic building is part of Glasgow Metropolitan College. It was designed by Wylie Shanks in 1964. The rooftop is very stronly inspired by Modernist pioneer Le Corbusier's Unite D'Habitation in Marseilles
Queen Street Station. While Glasgow Central is larger and grander, most services within Scotland go from Queen Street while Central is used for journeys Southwards
Buchanan Street, one of Glasgow's main shopping sreets
Sauchiehall Street, a major shopping street running to the West End of Glasgow
This photo is dominated by 'Cineworld', a gigantic tower of movies
The Savoy Centre, off Sauchiehall Street. Brutalism at its worst!
Sauchiehall Street
Looking South along Scott Street.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Glasgow School Of Art, a world famous example of 'Art Noveau' architecture
Glasgow School Of Art
Another part of the 'school of art' complex
Looking towards the hills to the North of Glasgow
Scott Street
The Travelodge where I stayed, in Hill Street. Very conveniently, there was a fish and chip restaurant opposite...and it did very good meals.
Housing estate near Cowcaddens subway station
Inside Cowcaddens subway station. Glasgow's subway network consists of a circular route serving the city centre and West End mainly
One of the tube trains. The network is often referred to as the 'Clockwork Orange' because of the orange trains!
Cardross station, half an hour's train journey to the West of Glasgow.
One of the aging Class 320 Electric Multiple Units used on most local services on the electrified rail network around Glasgow. I am not a fan of these, or for that many any of its MkII EMU companions as none of the seats are lined up with the windows. Awful design.
Looking along the Clyde estuary from Cardross
Countryside near Cardross. I was taking a walk to see one of Cardross's secrets
This massive structure is located a good mile or so from Cardross in the middle of nowhere and is concealed by deep wooded valleys. Hoorah therefore for Ordnance Survey Explorer maps!
