Stevenage's magnificent Clock Tower, a beautiful example of 1950s design
One of the main shopping streets
Fountain at the bottom the Clock Tower
Another view of the Clock Tower
Another shopping precinct. Many retailers will have came and gone since the town was built, however the precinct itself remains largely unaltered.
Another precinct view
An office building in a very sorry state
Stevange Museum. Unfortunately, it was just closing as I arrived!
A very symmetrical precinct with a block of flats at the end.
More post war retail architecture
A tower block
One of several squares around the town centre
Looking along the main North-South shopping street.
This square contains an entrance to a shopping centre.
This building is simply functional
The Postmodern fiddly metal canopy of the West Gate Shopping Centre spills out onto this rather quiet street
The back of the shops
Another square, this one close to the railway station
Stevenage Leisure Centre. The raised walkway linking the town centre to the railway station bisects this building at first floor level.
Looking back towards to town centre
Stevenage railway station
The other side of the Leisure Centre. The 1960s concrete window design is reminiscent of the cafe on top of the 'Get Carter' car park in Gateshead while the orange curtains inside the restaurant have definitely seen better days.
A fine decorative mural
