Leeds
Kirkgate Market, Leeds
Inside the magnificent Kirkgate Market, apparantly the largest indoor market in Europe (this building is only a small part of it)

Kirkgate Market is the grand building on the right
The Corn Exchange

Looking South towards the railway
Leeds Shopping Plaza, a typical Postmodernist shopping centre
New Station Street slopes up to the railway, which is suspended above the city centre on a viaduct. Two aging 'Pacer' diesel multiple unit trains can be seen here.
Is it me or is the building in the centre strongly inspired by Birmingham's 'Rotunda'?
A queue of taxis outside the station and the very grand Queen's Hotel
The main entrance to Leeds Station. Leeds is probably the largest city in the UK to have a station without a name other than the city centre.
Fantastic new architecture near the station
Back of the Queen's Hotel and another entrance to the station
The Queen's Hotel
City Square, a pleasant plaza near the station
Shopping street
Central Square, featuring some rather industrial sculpture work
West Riding House, one of the highest buildings in Leeds.
A pleasant shopping thoroughfare
Inside the hideously Postmodern 'Headrow' shopping centre, the decor is incredibly dated and tacky and a fine example of this style.
The Headrow, a busy street running East to West through Leeds city centre. In my opinion, this street ought to be pedestrianised as crossing it is currently a hazard
East Parade
The Merrion Centre, outside a largely intact 1960s shopping centre. I think it was originally a precinct of shops with no roof above the mall, however the interior was modernised and the glazed roof added afterwards. There is also an office block and car park above and an adjoining indoor market
This Morrisons supermarket is behind the Merrion Centre and boasts an interesting sculptured pattern although it looks like the architect forgot to put the windows in!
Another view of the Merrion Centre with Morrisons behind

Inside Merrion Market
The Merrion Centre car park. I'm not sure why it's covered in green netting, perhaps the council are worried about bits falling off?
An interestingly shaped bar
Merrion Centre and car park
Part of the inner ring road
A rather Brutalist casino
A delightfully retro cafe behind the Merrion Centre
North facade of the Merrion Centre
Civic Hall and Millennium Square. It was filled with a temporary ice rink when I visited so I couldn't get a good angle to photograph it.
Civic Hall and Calverley Street. On the left is Leeds General Infirmary, ahead Leeds University and to the right, the ice rink
This is what contemporary architecture should be like. This fantastic building, 'The Carriageworks' contains a performing arts venue but its design embraces the spirit of Modernism and would fit in very well with any Modern building.
The Central Generating Station for Leeds General Infirmary. I assume this produces electricity and probably heat as well for the hospital and perhaps the adjacent university too.
Leeds University's Worsley Building, fantastically Brutalist
The Yorkshire TV complex, on Kirkstall Road, one of the main roads out of the city
Leeds International Swimming Pool, a fantastic, vibrant and striking building located on the edge of the city centre
Close-up of the unusual facade of the pool entrance/admin building
Outside of the pool
Very ornate architecture off Park Square
This court building is absolutely hideous and looks like something a child might build out of Lego
Leeds Town Hall, one of the finest Town Halls in the country. This is a magnificent structure
Town Hall
An intruiging building
Inside Leeds station
The Scarborough Hotel, an award-winning Leeds pub next to the station
A shopping street
The Headrow
This imposing building used to be a department store but is now being converted into apartments
Briggate, one of the main North-South streets in the heart of the city
Inside the Victoria Quarter shopping aracade
Looking South East along Kirkgate, Leeds Parish Church can be clearly seen at the end.
The River Aire
Brewery Wharf, a pleasant but empty shopping/office development by the river

Another 'Pacer' train passes over the Crown Street bridge
A very interesting new building near the Corn Exchange - the tiles change colour as you go around the building from green...
...to blue!
Inside the Corn Exchange, this magnificent place is home to small 'alternative' retailers.
This group of youths insisted I took their photographs, describing themselves as "Emo". Apparantly, it's the latest fashion trend.
The River Aire, near the railway station
The large but wholly uninspiring building on the right is ASDA's UK headquarters
Oliver Jake's Fish & Chip Restaurant - I can highly reccomend this.
